本文论述了美国社会在原子弹轰炸日本后的心理反应,担心美国成为下一个原子弹的受害者成为美国民众的主流心态。在恐惧中,包括科学家在内的美国公众提出一些设想以应对原子弹的威胁,包括建立世界政府、通过国际社会控制原子弹等。美国社会还预想了原子时代的社会结构的变化,担心会出现大量的失业与独裁。在无力破解原子弹威胁的基础上,一些人甚至希望科学发展的脚步能够停滞,以便社会的精神能够跟上。
Abstract：The paper describes the psychological reaction of American public to the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.In the terror of becoming the next victim,the American people,as well as the scientists,have proposed some solutions,which included world government and international control.They had also predicted the future changes of social structural in an atomic age,mass unemployment and dictatorship were the core of this anxiety.In the disability of eliminating this fear,some people even urged a moratorium on research until science became more "morally adept".
